First understand, then change. Most systems do not fail because they are old — they fail because nobody understands them as a whole. I start with mapping and documentation; only then do I propose changes.
I prefer boring, proven solutions over impressive ones. I measure success by what remains after me: a system that runs, documentation that holds, and people who know why.
